The Melody Spider (Garak-geomi)
The Melody Spider (Garak-geomi)
Mythological Entity • Animal-Form
Deep within the mist-shrouded valleys where echoes linger eternally, there exists a creature born not of flesh and blood, but of lost melodies and the lingering resonance of old wood. We call this enigmatic entity the Garak-geomi, or the Melody Spider.

A Form Woven from Sound
To behold the Garak-geomi is to witness a living instrument. Its legs are crafted from what appears to be the transparent, glowing silk threads of ancient stringed instruments. Its central body mirrors the hollow resonance box of a centuries-old wooden lute, intricately carved with the natural grain of weathered timber. As it moves gracefully through the dark, its very steps strike the air, causing soft, pure notes of string music to drift through the silence.
Habitats of Resonance
The creature prefers the profound solitude of echoing mountain ravines, the quiet courtyards of ancient Hanok manors, or the decaying timbers of abandoned pavilions. Here, in the breath of the wind and beneath forgotten eaves, it does not weave silk. Instead, it spins a magnificent "sound web" constructed entirely from invisible acoustic vibrations.
The Eater of Melodies
The Garak-geomi harbors no malice and poses absolutely no threat to humanity. Its size—nearly 1.5 meters across, akin to a grown man’s embrace—belies a remarkably gentle soul. It hungers not for prey, but for beauty. It feeds upon the songs of birds, the babbling of pristine streams, and the exquisite music performed by human hands. Upon feasting on a beautiful song, the spider's wooden thorax begins to emit a soft, luminescent glow, reminiscent of pale moonlight.
Illusions and Silence
This mystical beast wields the power of the "Illusion of Sound." It can flawlessly project any harmony it has ever consumed. Travelers lost in the woods have spoken of hearing a loved one's voice or a guiding river, conjured by a benevolent Garak-geomi leading them to safety. However, if faced with danger, it inhales the very essence of sound around it, plunging a 10-meter radius into a terrifying, absolute vacuum of pure silence.
The Curse of Dissonance
Because its existence is bound to harmony, chaos is its undoing. The screech of scraping metal, deafening explosions, or agonizing dissonant chords inflict unbearable suffering upon the creature. When struck by such noise, its glowing limbs stiffen, and it transforms entirely into an inanimate block of rigid wood.

The Legend of the Forgotten Master
The lore of the Garak-geomi stretches back to the Joseon Dynasty, speaking of an unnamed Gayageum master. Exiled under false accusations, he vanished into the deepest mountains, playing his instrument until his final, lonely breath. It is whispered that his lingering sorrow and fervent passion permeated the strings of his beloved Gayageum. The old strings twisted together, animating the wood, and thus the first Garak-geomi awakened. Even now, on nights when the moon is unbearably bright, if one hears a flawless Gayageum melody echoing through the uninhabited mountains... it is merely the Garak-geomi, weeping musical tears for a master it can never forget.
